Mobile trackers were distributed to five Visually impaired college students

Visually impaired students learning stories through tactile story books. This workshop was conducted in association with Chetana Trust, Kotturpuram

To strengthen the independence of the students by providing reading, writing, and typing practice for the visually impaired. Around 40 school students actively participated in the workshop.

The STIL (Smart tools for independent learning)- a one-day orientation on independent learning and distribution of Accessible tools to students with a visual impairment from classes 6-10.

This course gives an orientation towards building job abilities technology with basic computer operation on divers skills.

  1. Enabling the visually impaired in office automation skills to perform regular academic and office-oriented tasks.
  2. To enhances the abilities of logical skills, analytical skills, and management skills.

Timings : 02.00 PM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday and Weekend course also available

Eligibility:

  • Any visually impaired person with graduation will be permitted.Even equivalent diploma holders may be considered on an exceptional basis.
  • School and College student can join
  • Only those Visually Impaired who can dedicate their full time for the entire course and Employment should apply.

Course Contents:

  1. Life skills - Social competencies, overcoming disability, Managing conflicts, Effective work habits etc.
  2. Computers - Basic Computer concepts, MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  3. Internet – Browsing, Mailing and Data Sourcing
    Assistive Technology/ Devices
  4. Miscellaneous concepts - Scanning and Reading, Printing documents, , Physical connections of computer, trouble shooting etc,.

Material Used:

1. Computers with Windows 10+ operating system and Office 2016,
2. Latest NVDA
3. Audio files
4. Training Manuals and Student manuals
5. Self based exercises for each concept.
6. Weekly tests and final assessment test.
7. Designed Curriculum with education aspects.
8. Tactile Diagrams

Course Format:
The duration of the course is 3 months.
Three month will be focused on typing, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, Spellings, mobility, awareness of assistive aids.
