Our Journey !
As information technology started making an impact in society, we saw the immense possibilities for use of this by persons with visual impairments.
We felt we should set up a technology centre to get them trained in usage of technology and assistive devices which will help them get jobs and function effectively in their workplace in Government or in corporate. sectors like IT / ITES, banking, education etc. This led to the setting
up of the “Karna Vidya Technology Centre.” The centre uses the latest assistive technologies and devices, including Braille, to help students with visual Impairments to learn
and use them.
In 1999, “Karna Vidya Reading Centre” was established with our focus being on fulfilling the academic pursuits of students with visual impairments. This program mainly supported underprivileged visually impaired students to complete their college education. There was a request by the students to get audio lessons and so in 2003, KVF set up a dedicated Library in Adyar, Chennai which has now shifted to Mandaveli, Chennai. I
In 2016, all these units were combined under an independent umbrella trust called KARNA VIDYA FOUNDATION.
