Eligibility:

• Any visually impaired person with graduation will be permitted.Even equivalent diploma holders may be considered on an exceptional basis.
• School and College student can join
• Only those Visually Impaired who can dedicate their full time for the entire course and Employment should apply.

Course Contents:

1. Life skills - Social competencies, overcoming disability, Managing conflicts, Effective work habits etc.
2. Computers - Basic Computer concepts, MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
3. Internet – Browsing, Mailing and Data Sourcing
   Assistive Technology/ Devices
4. Miscellaneous concepts - Scanning and Reading, Printing documents, , Physical connections of computer, trouble shooting etc,.

Material Used:

1. Computers with Windows 10+ operating system and Office 2016,
2. Latest NVDA
3. Audio files
4. Training Manuals and Student manuals
5. Self based exercises for each concept.
6. Weekly tests and final assessment test.
7. Designed Curriculum with education aspects.
8. Tactile Diagrams

Course Format:
The duration of the course is 3 months.
Three month will be focused on typing, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, Spellings, mobility, awareness of assistive aids.

Course Code : ITESJA1801
Duration : 6 Months
Timings : 9:30 AM – 6:30 PM, Monday – Saturday
Training Venue: Karna Vidya Foundation , Chennai
Seats : 30
Course Fee : No Course Fee

Eligibility:

• Any visually impaired person with graduation will be permitted.Even equivalent diploma holders may be considered on an exceptional basis.
• Age should not be more than 35 years
• Only those Visually Impaired who can dedicate their full time for the entire course and Employment should apply.

Course Contents:

1. Life skills - Social competencies, overcoming disability, Managing conflicts, Effective work habits etc.
2. English training - Business Communication Skills (Spoken and Written) emphasis on error free writing.
3. Computers - Basic Computer concepts, MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
4. Internet – Browsing, Mailing and Data Sourcing
   Assistive Technology/ Devices
5. Miscellaneous concepts - Scanning and Reading, Printing documents, , Physical connections of computer, trouble shooting etc,.
6. Employability/ Job simulation training - Disability specifics, overcome their disability, General employability ethics, work ethics, Introduction to varied job profiles and Role Simulations
7. Projects on Employability - Helps the overall development of the candidate.

Activities:
Field visits to the bank, shopping malls, ATM’s etc where candidates learn about the usage of computers in different fields.
Candidates also carry out project work which involves requirements gathering, planning, status reporting and execution.
20 hours of community project and employment project is mandatory.

Course Format:
The duration of the course is 6 months. (3 months Basic Foundation & 2 months Skilled Employability and one month focused Training on Job modules)
Three month will be focused on typing, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, Spellings, mobility, awareness of assistive aids and work environment. Basic computers with English communication, mobility, employability and life skills.
The next 2 months will be skilled employability training.
Last month will focus on training Job Modules

Encourage and train the students with visual impairment on Math and science using assistive devices, alternate modes and other accessible materials.

Objectives:

To enable the visually impaired to pursue math and science subjects in higher education.

• To understand the principles of science and math in day-to-day activity.

1. If the content is in print medium then scan the print content using scanner having 500 dpi or above as .JPEG format. Always tear the binding of the book for it to be placed flat on the scanner glass.
2. Convert the scanned image content or inaccessible e-content into an editable text using appropriate OCR specific to the language. The options for OCR depend upon the workflow and preferences of the production team. The choices are:
   • Google OCR.
   • PDF OCR X
   • ABBYY Finereader.
3. Copy the OCR output content to new Note pad document then copy from the Note Pad document to new MS word document. This removes all unnecessary formatting from the scanned document.
4. Start proof reading, graphic insertion and heading mark-up. Compare to with source document by following the steps mentioned below:
   • Correct the content with missed characters, words, sentences etc.
   • Leave only one line blank space wherever it is required. example above and below each heading and sub heading.
   • Document should be aligned left except the title page of the book
   • Use only rounded bullet style for bulleted points and number style appropriately. Don’t use other bullet styles.
   • Prepare the tabulated contents using insert table options in the word. Don’t draw the table using shapes.
   • Don’t use shapes, especially the classification pointed with arrow marks, we have to make it as graphic or table based on the content
   • Don’t use tab spacing in the beginning of line and between words
   • Prepare the math content using recommended math content creating software such as MathType available from Design Science.
   • Insert the graphic appropriately and describe using alt text option in MS Word or describe below the graphic based on the image concept. Graphic should be left aligned and graphic row should not contain any text
   • Do heading mark-up with appropriate heading style as per accessible e-book production guidelines
   • Use page break after complete proof reading and alignment of content size covered in each page of source document
5. After done with the proof reading and mark-ups as per accessible e-book production guidelines, validate the document using check accessibility feature in MS Word 2013 or later and doc inspect option in accessibility ribbon added using vision Australia toolbar
6. After validating the documents successfully, convert into EPUB using recommended software such as Jutoh or word to EPUB convertor from DAISY Consortium.
7. If the validated document is converted into EPUB using word to EPUB convertor then add the missing metadata using Sigil software
8. Share the final EPUB with cover page image, source document, Metadata and marked up word document to concern to upload into Bookshare

First of all i thank to kvtc for this job.

When i was in dharmapuri district i searched for many job,but they hesitated to give the job they asked me where i know computer or not i felt very sad i thought that visually challenged people can't work in computer. Oneday my friend kardinamari called me. When i asked for computer course she suggested kvtc she also explained about various courses conducted by this institution for visually challenged people. I was so excited, immediately i joined here on 1/2/2016. When i came here kvtc took care of me they provided me hostel facilities. I learnt here a lot about this screen readers that help visually challenged to work in computer. I also learnt to speak in English, mobility, employability etc. While learning this course kvtc arranged a job opportunity for us. The Scope acknowledge came and conducted interview i got selected. I was very excited went to job on 1 july 2016. When my parents came ti know they were very happy. People in my village are also happy. Many the visually challenged can see because of Kvtc. before coming here i don't know anything in computer i was i like roadside plant but now when i entered Kvtc, it  changed me on useful tree This centre provided me hostel facilities. I learnt the six skills which helped me to grow step by step the skills are 1 typewriting, 2 computer, 3 English, 4 Employability, 5 mobility, and communication skill. While studying in Kvtc they arranged a job for us. The Scope e-knowledge and conducted interview. I was very glad when i got selected. I felt very happy when i got first salary. Now my relatives and friends are respecting me they are exclaiming how can i work in and it sector my parents are very happy.
