Life Skills orientation 2015

Date : 9 May 2015 to 13 May 2015
  • RC Drishti conducts a five-day residential summer camp for twelfth completed visually impaired students at Sethu Bhaskara Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Ambatore from 9th May 2015 to 13th May 2015.
  • The camp was inaugurated by Mr. Natraj Raman, Managing trustee Dream India NGO and Mr.Selva Kumar The Principal SBMHSS.
  • The camp began with a picnic to Mahabalipuram on the first day with 20 students and 19 volunteers.
  • They spent the day in a meaningful and fruitful manner by visiting important historical monuments.
  • The next day (10th May 2015), series of a session on women’s empowerment, law, sharpening professional skills, counseling and guidance were conducting by different professionals from relevant fields. The musical evening gave an opportunity to the students to exhibit their competencies in music.
  • On the third day (11th May 2015), Session on communication skills and skills for competitive examinations made the students learn several strategies to strengthen such competencies.
  • The usage of assistive technology enlightened the students on the available technological resources for their educational and employment betterment. Entertaining evening on the same day gave an outlet to the students to realize their talents.
  • The next day (12th May 2015), a session on artistic presentation facilitated the students to stage various creative events on their own. Sessions on courses and careers and science- a way of life provided an insight into their future endeavors. Yoga evening energized the youth with high spirits.
  • The last day of the camp began with the learning of Silambattam.
  • It was followed by the session on laughter therapy that fills the environment with peace and happiness. Several small competitions were conducted and the winners were appreciated accordingly.
  • The valedictory function on the same day afternoon was graced by Honorable District Collector Thiruvallor. A folder containing CD with academic books and certificates were issued to the students by the chief guest.
  • The volunteers from Cognizant Outreach Team did a fabulous volunteering during the course of the camp at all levels.
  • Volunteers from our-home trust not only involved in the arrangements of sessions but also handled the session on mind games.
  • Their commitment to conduct the course in an effective manner, their dedication in arranging logistics and, above all, their sincere interest in developing the friendship, added meaning and more spirit to the camp.
  • Let the volunteering continue to spread it’s fragrance in all corners of the society.
 

Summer camps

District Level Volleyball Tournament 2012

Date : 9 Mar 2012
  • Drishti began its journey with District level volleyball tournament for visually impaired youth during March 2012.
  • With the motto to Empower the sportsmen, The tournament was organized at Loyola college ground.
  • 9 teams across the state participated with an incredible spirit and proved their sportsmanship.
  • It was inaugurated by the physical director, Loyola college. The valedictory function was graced by Mr. MS. Nagarajan and other well-wishers of the club.

State Level Volleyball Tournament 2013

  • This event was conducted to encourage sportsmanship and to create awareness among the public on the talents of the visually challenged people.
  • 15 Teams from all over Tamilnadu participated in this sport.
  • The event was conducted and prizes were awarded in three categories College Men, College Women and School boys.
  • The event had a lot of media coverage and received a healthy reception by all.

First South Zone Volleyball Tournament 2014

Date : 8 and 9 Feb 2014

  • For the first time in visually challenged sporting arena, Drishti conducted the First South Zone Volleyball Tournament for visually challenged students on 8th and 9th February 2014 at YMCA ground.
  • Around 20 teams from both from Tamilnadu and other southern states participated. The tournament was conducted under three categories:
    1. School Boys
    2. College Men
    3. College Women
  • The tournament was inaugurated by Mr. Ramesh, an engineering consultant.
  • The league matches were conducted during the first day and the semis and finals were conducted on the second day.
  • Mr. Naresh Guptha IAS and present CAT Member delivered the Chief Guest address and gave away the shields and prizes to winners and runners during the valedictory programme.
  • Mr. Ramakrishnan, Director, Sports Mechanics PVT LTD graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor.

State Level Cricket Tournament 2014

Date : 5 and 6 July 2014
  • With the view to promote and develop cricket for visually impaired in our state of Tamil Nadu and to mainstream disabled people and prove their abilities, Rotaract Club of Drishti joined hands with LC Project Nagapattinam to lead and organize a state level cricket tournament for visually impaired on 5th and 6th of July 2014.
  • The tournament is also supported by Tamil Nadu blind Cricket Board.
  • The 12 Teams that participated during the tournament had their league matches on the 5th and the semis and finals on the sixth of July.
  • The league matches were conducted in Govt HSS, Somangalam, Dhanalakshmi Engineering College and MCC grounds. The semis and finals were conducted in MCC alone.
  • The valedictory function held on 6th evening in MCC ground was graced by Mr. S Ramakrishnan, Director, Sports Mechanics India PVT LTD, Mr. Dhanasekar analyst from BCC, DR Summanth C Raman, Television Anchor Person and Mr. Parivu Sakthivel. Madurai Team were the winners and they were honoured by the distinguished guests.
  • Two important new awards namely Young Cricketer Award and Special Indian Cricketer Award were also initiated and bestowed on Master Arum and Mr. Ramesh, Madurai Team Captain and Player in the Indian Team respectively.

State Level Volleyball Tournament 2015

Date: 15 Feb 2015 Venue: Loyola College Ground
  • With the objective to establish and strengthen the sportsmanship among the visually impaired youth, Retract Club of Drishti, for the fourth consecutive year, conducted the State Level Volleyball Tournament on 15 02 2015 (Sunday) at Loyola College ground. Out of the 11 teams participated, 8 were from other districts.
  • A state Wheelchair Tennis Player and 2 Wheelchair Tennis Players inaugurated the tournament at 08 30 am.
  • Followed by the captain’s meet, the league matches were conducted in the morning.
  • The semis and finals happened in the afternoon.MR Mohan, VP, Cognizant Outreach, greeted and initiated the finals between Thanjavur and Vilupuram Teams.
  • During the valedictory function, Thanjavur team, the winners of the tournament, was awarded with cash prize, certificates and a shield .
  • The runners-up was Vilupuram team and they were also awarded with cash prize and certificates. MR Mohan, VP, Cognizant Outreach, gave an inspiring speech that motivated each and everyone.
  • The special moment during the valediction was the honors done to mam jyothi maggu, the young visually impaired international athelete. Members from Thozhan Foundation, DR Prabhu, first visually impaired RTD Principal, Rotarians and other well-wishers graced the evening.
  • Since 08 00 am in the morning, 20 volunteers from Cognizant Outreach, did a tremendous help in arranging and organizing the tournament.
  • They did the registrations, Scoring, assisting the visually impaired for several requirements filling in the certificates and so on. Nearly 10 and half hours their volunteering continued ceaselessly.
  • The support and guidance rendered by Cognizant Outreach, Thozhan Foundation and Rotarians was really enabling and empowering us.
  • Drishti salutes their unparalleled service wholeheartedly.

Artistry of Upbringing

Date : August 2012 The main focus is to help the Parents of the visually challenged children understand the psychological, educational, employment and livelihood needs of their children, the club has conducted one-day Counselling programme during 2012

Seminar on the Artistry of Upbringing

Date : August 2013 One-Day Seminar on the Artistry of upbringing or Parents counseling is a unique Endeavour of our club. It aims at relieving psychological impediments of the parents of the visually challenged students. This programme is conducted for the second consecutive year.

Objectives of the programme

  1. Make parents accept reality.
  2. Drive out misconceptions about physically challenged children,
  3. Identify hidden potentials of their children
  4. Acquaint parents with the methods of proper upbringing so that children grow up to be potential members of the family and best citizens
  5. Infuse a sense of optimism which will make life meaningful to them and to their society.
The programme took place on the 31st [Saturday] August 2013 at Sethu Bhaskara MHSS.It was addressed by a psychologist, academicians and successful visually challenged personalities on the following topics:
  1. Counseling
  2. Effective Housekeeping
  3. Educational opportunities and employment possibilities
  4. Social Skills
  5. Assistive technology in service of the visually challenged
Around 35 parents participated in this event and got benefited.
